Getting around: The hotel is in a popular beach area so guests can walk to many shops and restaurants immediately around the hotel. The local buses called públicos stop in front of the hotel and can be taken to San Pedro de Marcoris for fare of less than $5. Fees subject to change without notice. El Pescador - Serving the same menus as El Batey de la Costa, this beachfront restaurant also presents breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffets. From 11 PM until 2 AM, this is the place for fast foods such as burgers.

Las Olas - Open for lunch and dinner, this open-air, à la carte place specializes in grilled foods. Reservations are required for dinner. Men are requested to wear long pants and sleeved shirts. At 11 PM, Las Olas becomes a disco with dancing on two levels—one under a thatched roof and the other on a wood deck overlooking the sea.

Chez Fontaine - Not part of the All-Inclusive Plan, Chez Fontaine is a small, intimate, candlelit spot offering à la carte choices such as crab gratiné and lobster prepared various ways.

The resort includes two pool bars, a beach bar, a bar in the open-air theater, and a bar in the disco open until 2 AM.

Room service is available from 7 AM until 11 PM, but is not part of the All-Inclusive Plan.

Amenity highlights: Two good-sized, two-level pools are on the grounds—one near the beach for activities and the other a "quiet pool" deep in the resort's grounds that contains a 15-foot water slide. There are also two children's pools, one next to a kids' club and playground. Rocky in the center, the long, deep beach has sandy access to the Caribbean on both ends and offers plenty of room for sunning amid palm trees without being crowded.

Insider tip: Little noticed by most guests, afternoon "tea" is served on a shaded terrace outside Chez Fontaine restaurant, with views of a flamingo pond.
